Our actions and initiatives.
Here are some key moments that have made us proud throughout the past year. We appreciate the support from our customers and the dedication of our co-workers, and we look forward to contributing even more in the future.
Healthy & sustainable living
We globally sell over 500 products to encourage sustainable living ‒ saving energy and water, reducing waste, and encouraging healthy living. We’ve also introduced more plant-based choices into our food offering, such as our veggie dog and veggie meatballs.
In the U.S., we’ve eliminated single use plastic bags since October 2008 and, in June of 2018, we committed to phasing out single use plastics from all range, customer and co-worker restaurants, and bistros.
Circular & climate positive
We’ve invested in renewable energies including the purchase of two U.S. wind farms in Hoopeston, IL, and Cameron, TX. We’ve also invested in the installation of solar panels on over 90% of our roof tops in the U.S. This has contributed to the production of renewable energy equivalent to 81% of the energy we use in our global operations.
As a member of the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC), we responsibly source FSC certified and/or recycled wood and paper, used in our products and our operations. Additionally, IKEA U.S. has planted 2,658,097 trees since 1998 with the help of our partner, American Forests.
Fair & inclusive
We actively engage in our communities to create a positive impact on livelihoods and contribute to an inclusive local economy. Since 2014, IKEA U.S. has contributed millions of dollars of support to national partners, including:
- Feeding America, in the fight to end childhood hunger.
- UNICEF, in securing every child has a safe and healthy childhood.
- The American Red Cross, supporting their disaster relief work.
Our support and respect of human rights is reflected in all areas of our business.
